Best Loved Hotels

"Wine is bottled poetry", Robert Louis Stevenson famously claimed. Wine also brings a special dimension to food, not only because it offers a whole spectrum of tastes to enrich a meal, but because it symbolises conviviality and joie de vivre. This week we look at a selection of Best Loved hotels with excellent wine lists, where the wine is every bit as fine as the food.

HATTINGLEY VALLEY WINERY

Hattingley Valley Winery

Hattingley Valley Winery in picturesque Hampshire use traditional methods for making their wines. They use oak barrels to ferment a small proportion of the wines each year, as well as ageing on lees in stainless steel tanks. This helps to soften the wines before they go into bottles for the second fermentation. Each tour takes approximately 2 hours and includes a trip to the vineyard, an in-depth tour of their state-of-the-art winery, followed by a tasting of their premium English Sparkling Wines.

HOTELS FOR WINE LOVERS

St Brides Spa Hotel - photo

On a cliff top overlooking Saundersfoot in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, St Brides Spa Hotel is an oasis of calm and luxury with an award winning spa, contemporary restaurant, an extensive wine list and stylish bedrooms. One of St Brides' most popular 'in room requests' is Belstar Rose Prosecco, made by a family that can almost be considered to be the royal family of the Prosecco region. The aromatic bouquet, fresh fruity flavour, gentle mousse and ripe red cherry fruit flavours, give a full-on, no prisoners taken style fizz with an awful lot of character. The fruity flavours of pears and raspberries promise a mouth-watering, dry and crisp finish.
