A new year is upon us, which means the 2008 edition of our 332 hotel Best Loved Hotels Guide is out. I find it quite cathartic looking back over the past twelve months about the places I have been to and the people I have met in connection with producing this collection of interesting places to stay. As usual, I am amazed by the energy and dedication of Best Loved hoteliers and their staff who work so incredibly hard to ensure you have a memorable stay or meal with them.
During my visits to these many fantastic places, I have also had the chance to meet many guests - people like you who want a little bit more than a cookie cutter hotel experience. Your reasons for travel vary, your life experiences colour your stays and provide me, usually the lone traveller, with a myriad of tales and memories and ideas on how to improve on what we do.
Let me share one such amusing engagement which helps define the very essence of what we do at Best Loved Hotels. I was visiting the Cringletie House, or I should say Castle, as it is a stunning example of the baronial castle style set in the exquisite Borders of Scotland.
