With so many Best Loved hotels to choose from, there’s a world
of good dining to tempt you – but the new restaurant at Cockliffe Country
House Hotel was just too good for us to miss on a recent visit,
and we knew we had to let you in on the secret.
This distinctive turreted country hotel in the heart of Robin Hood
country recently held the opening of their newly re-decorated restaurant,
now open to non-residents – passers-by can pop in for a relaxing
dinner at this stylish retreat whether or not they are staying for
the night. Cockliffe’s excellent proximity to Nottingham, Mansfield
and Newark-on-Trent – matched, however, by a delightfully secluded
location that’s a world away from business bustle – makes
it an ideal choice for holidaymakers and business travellers alike.
is a feast for the eyes as well as
the palate; the decor is dramatic, yet boasts a relaxing atmosphere,
making it a unique mix of classic and modern. Starters are a feast
in themselves, accompanied by a well-selected wine list: try chicken
liver parfait with beautifully spiced roasted oranges or a tender
duck confit with wild asparagus and rocket salad, both worthy of taking
time to savour! Mains are just as substantial, so be certain to save
some of your appetite – we treated ourselves to a satisfying
fillet steak, complemented by wild mushroom ravioli and celeriac and
mustard rosti. For a fish dish, there’s poached salmon and sole
with asparagus and a tomato and keta caviar beurre. Desserts are pleasant
mix of the traditional and creative, especially when matched with
a good after-dinner wine (and for this, the
Cockliffe Restaurant is
happy to oblige).
In all, this fine-dining restaurant is an ideal evening escape –
particularly when matched with a night’s stay at Cockliffe Country
House Hotel! If the mouthwatering descriptions above aren’t
enough, why not enjoy their
special offer: a complimentary aperitif
with dinner to all Best Loved readers.
