A new year is upon us, which means the 2009 edition of our Best Loved Hotels Guide is out. Over the last twelve months the Best Loved Team has crisscrossed the breadth and width of Britain and Ireland seeking out the very best of all kinds of great places to stay. To that end, our 2009 edition has over 350 fantastic choices, from
the smallest B&Bs to the grandest stately homes and resorts. These pages feature something for every discerning traveller.
At a time when the media is filled with tales of corporate excess, I want to take a moment and pay tribute to Richard Broyd, founder of Historic House Hotels, which includes Hartwell House, Bodysgallen, and Middlethorpe Halls - all long-time Best Loved hotels and universally acclaimed as outstanding properties. Last September, Richard ceded all three hotels to the National Trust in an extraordinary gesture of generosity to the nation which should not go unrecognised.
It is this generosity which typifies the ethos of the Best Loved Hotelier. Yes, they are all business people...but with a difference. They too, are dedicated to giving. Nothing gives them more pleasure than exceeding your expectations. Just look at the places to stay and see how each year each hotel, country house or B&B expands, improves, or creates new products and services for you to enjoy. I hope you will take
the chance this year to indulge and take advantage of what Best Loved Hotels offers.
