Best Loved Hotels Gastronaut Special - July
Handpicked offers and giveaways to delight the foodie in every traveller

Dear Best Loved Member,

Tuesday, 26th July, 2011

Every so often, we like to keep our Best Loved Community up to date on hotels who score off the charts in one aspect of hospitality. This week I am so happy to focus on food. As many of you know, I am a bit of a foodie both by desire and default - dining out is part and parcel of my role here. Combine that with a congenital interest in all things culinary and you get the point. If you do not believe me, as a child free time was taken up watching cooking shows, and I don't mean Jamie and Nigella. No for me it started with Graham's "The Galloping Gourmet" and Julia's "The Art of French Cooking" Both of them also shared a keen fondness for the grape and I can report I have become a devotee as well.

We'd love to hear from you

So this week we focus on three Best Loved Hotels from Yorkshire, the Lake District, and the Cotswolds: The Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel & Spa, Holbeck Ghyll Country House and Lords of the Manor. Each hotel is offering you the chance to stay and dine from only £99.50 per person per night. Each hotel takes food seriously. By seriously I mean they source, create and present with a passion for the curious, the new and the classic yet without the affectation or pretence that can sometimes be associated with gastronomy. All three have been recognized critically and popularly and urge you to indulge. You will certainly be creating a Best Loved memory!

Have fun.

“Matt Weedon's cooking graces an aristocratic country setting in the Cotwolds.”

- Richard McComb, Food Critic

The award-winning restaurant at the Lords of the Manor has a fine reputation for its locally sourced cuisine, while the rambling cellar produces a wine list to complement even the most diverse tastes.

Matt joined Lords of the Manor from Glenapp Castle in Ayrshire in February 2008. He is known for his love of classical French food which comes through in his exciting seasonal menus all based on quality ingredients, many of which come from top local suppliers. His cooking has strong roots in the classical repertoire yet chimes with the modern taste for light, refined dishes.

Chocolate dessert

The Burlington is the most highly regarded restaurant in Yorkshire, holding a Michelin star and four AA rosettes. Enjoying pre–dinner drinks with canapés in one of the luxurious lounges is all part of The Burlington experience; as for the menu, this really is haute cuisine, Yorkshire style.

Seasonal game and fish, together with vegetables and herbs from The Devonshire Arm's kitchen gardens, are the hallmarks of The Burlington's splendid menu. Unique ideas are executed with culinary perfection, resulting in remarkable dishes such as foie gras and duck confit with Goosnargh duck textures, fig gel and toasted brioche; or hand- dived scallops with celeriac smoked eel, apple and truffle.

Round this off with a playful yet refined dessert of 'chocolate mayhem' with caramel and lime, and you have a feast sure to delight even the most discerning gourmet.
